The AODs were grouped together with the International 12s, in Class C. The 12s are of similar size and comparable performance, which made for some interesting and competitive racing. The 12s were rated slightly faster than the AODs which on balance seemed fair, in that they had a slight advantage in boat speed.
Come the overall results Steve Daniel in AOD No.6 Swallow managed to keep ahead and won the series convincingly. Nigel Daniel in AOD No.1 Whimbrel, just squeezed into second place, tying with Bert Hemminga in Int 12 No.112, which was only decided by the last race win. Bryan Davis in No.8 Gemini came in 5th and Chris Ashlett-Brown in No.23 Gannet came in 10th. All in all, an excellent weekend!
Back in late July three AODs (No.s1, 6 & 8) headed down to Cornwall for Fowey Classics. The usual warm welcome greeted the participants and once again Steve Daniel in AOD No.6 prevailed in the small boat class winning the Gribbin Cup. A very pleasant few days was spent sailing in Fowey, wonderfully supported by the Fowey Gallants SC and the RFYC.
