2018 has started with the commissioning of new AOD. No.24 had its keel laid in early January and is expected to be completed by the end of March.
Once again Peter Williams’ yard at Bodinnick has been chosen to build the AOD. Local Axmouth residents Graham & Eileen Mather took the decision to build an AOD last year having taken an interest in the class over the past couple of years. A visit to Peter’s boat yard during 2017 Fowey Classics confirmed their intention.
Presently the build has progressed to keel / stem / transom set up with moulds in place. Peter visited Axmouth just before Christmas to review some of the finer detail of AOD No.1 to ensure the new boat follows the original design as closely as possible.
2018 represents the AOD’s 65th anniversary and a commemorative regatta is planned for July – hopefully with all AODs present to welcome the new boat. A return to Fowey Classics in greater numbers is also planned.
